POSITION SUMMARY
Carmen Schools seeks a student-focused leader who understands and commits to implementing the Carmen Educational Model to ensure all students graduate prepared for success in college, meaningful careers, community involvement, and family life. The Assistant Principal (AP) will be a part of the School Leadership team and work with the Principal to create a positive culture for Carmen scholars, faculty, staff and community members through collaboration and modeling. The AP is responsible for managing and monitoring school data, supporting strong student engagement in the classrooms, and supporting a positive school culture. The AP will have direct reports for which they are responsible to supervise, coach, and develop on a regular basis. Like all Carmen Leaders, the Assistant Principal models Carmen’s habit of heart and mind.

Salary Range: $70,000 - $85,000
Location: Carmen Middle & High School of Science and Technology, Northwest Campus

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field; master’s degree preferred
  • Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction teacher and administrator licenses or eligibility for such licensure
  • Minimum 5 years teaching experience with a minimum 1 year in full-time leadership role
  • Ability to lead and function in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment with a mature and joyous approach to challenges
  • Experience leading a high-performing team preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Mission & Vision

  • In collaboration with the School Leadership team, executes all school duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Carmen vision, mission, and strategic plan
  • In collaboration with the School Leadership team, creates a safe and positive culture of accountability for Carmen students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Communicates with Carmen stakeholders and community members regarding student engagement and other data
  • Builds deep and trusting relationships with faculty, staff, students, and families.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Academic and School Culture Support and Coaching
    • Collaborates with the School Leadership team on academic and culture priorities, programs, and practices
    • Ensures that faculty and staff are adequately trained to implement these practices including designing and implementing professional development, 1:1 observations and coaching of faculty and staff, and supporting through regular and timely communication
    • Designs, implements, monitors, and communicates effective student behavior and interventions that are fully aligned with Carmen culture and discipline philosophy and guidelines. Ensures that faculty and staff are adequately trained to implement these practices and implements a regular coaching schedule to support positive classroom culture.
    • Collaboration with cross-functional teams (e.g., Operations, College and Career, etc.) to support student and family engagement as well as academic and culture goals
  • Coordinates with APs, other School Leaders, and Network staff across the network to ensure campus-based programs, policies, and practices align with network-wide expectations as well as to identify and implement best practices in strong culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Coordinates with other APs regarding network-wide professional development to ensure student-centered teaching practices, data analysis, and teacher/staff PD support
  • Reviews on a daily basis school academic and culture data focused on attendance, discipline metrics, classroom culture data and support immediate follow ups and interventions
  • Support a strong family engagement strategy that includes regular opportunities to engage as well as working to support a strong arc of the year for family events.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The position will work predominantly Monday – Friday; however, this position will require work on evenings and weekends as necessary.
