Salary Range: $21.00/hr. (0 Years) - $25.00/hr. (8+ Years)
A paraprofessional supports the Carmen community to live out the value that every minute matters! Our paraprofessionals are critical to the success of our students through providing coverage in classrooms and executing on lesson plans designed by teachers, through supporting small groups or individual students who need more opportunities to try a new skill and receive real time feedback, and document student progress on specifically designed interventions.
- Absolute belief in the ability of all students to learn and achieve and commitment to ending educational inequity in Milwaukee.
- Associate's Degree, evidence of passed Parapro-Assessment ETS, or other DPI approved assessment
- Licensure issued by Wisconsin’s Department of Public Instruction (or eligibility for such licensure). Click here for more information on a Short-Term Substitute Teacher license: https://dpi.wi.gov/licensing/a..
- Note: After 6 days worked as a Carmen Substitute Teacher, you will be eligible for reimbursement for your DPI License Fee.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to understand, apply and use computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES |
Provide Instructional Flexibility to Support Student Growth
- Provide in house subbing by executing on lesson plans designed by teachers to ensure instructional continuity
- When coverage is not needed, push in to classrooms to provide small group or one on one interventions
- Monitor students during Advisory periods as needed
- Support parent communication via attendance phone calls
- Demonstrate, monitor, and encourage positive student behaviors and enforce school rules
- Reinforce appropriate social and communication skills
- Reinforce student learning of material or skills; assist students in a 1:1 tutoring basis or small group instruction in conjunction with teacher-prepared lesson plans
- Administer make-up tests and lessons to students.
Classroom Responsibilities:
- Assist the teacher daily with preparation, instruction, and clean-up of materials.
- Interact with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Communicate all relevant concerns about students to the teacher.
- Observes and monitors student activities in a classroom setting.
- Assists the teacher in maintaining order and building a positive classroom community.
Supportive Responsibilities:
- Check attendance, seating charts, and ascertain the whereabouts of absent students.
- Escorts students to and from specials and lunch as required by the age of students
- Monitor hallways to ensure student and staff safety.
- Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
The position will work predominantly Monday – Friday during school hours; however, this position may require work on an occasional evening as necessary.
