POSITION SUMMARY
Carmen Schools seeks a student-focused leader who understands and commits to implementing the Carmen Educational Model to ensure all students graduate prepared for success in college, meaningful careers, community involvement, and family life. The Dean of Students will work with the Principal and Assistant Principal to create a positive culture for Carmen students, faculty, staff and community members through strong classroom culture, advisory program, retreats, and daily interactions to ensure that the community meets and exceeds school-wide culture goals. Like all Carmen Leaders, the Dean of Students models Carmen’s habits of heart and mind.

Salary Range: $57,500 - $75,000


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction teacher and administrator licenses or eligibility
  • Minimum 3 years teaching experience with demonstrated mastery and evidence of accelerated student performance
  • Minimum 1 year direct experience in a part-time or full-time leadership role
  • Ability to lead and function in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment with a mature and joyous approach to challenges

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Mission & Vision

  • In collaboration with the School Leadership team, executes all school duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Carmen vision, mission, and strategic plan
  • In collaboration with the School Leadership team, creates a positive culture of accountability for Carmen students, faculty, staff, and community members by ensuring all culture and discipline data is swiftly and correctly updated for timely follow-up
  • Designs, implements, and monitors character/SEL, Advisory, and other culture building programs
  • Assists with organization of campus safety policies, and practices and ensures that faculty and staff are adequately trained to implement these practices.
  • Communicates with Carmen stakeholders and community members regarding cultural, SEL and character programs, including behavioral expectations
  • Builds deep and trusting relationships with faculty, staff, students, and families.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • School Culture Support and Coaching
    • Manages, implements, and monitors the Advisory program as well as other culture building programs, policies, and practices with Carmen stakeholders and community members. Supports student voice in designing a strong school culture
    • Collaborates with the Director of Culture and Leadership Development and Deans across the network to ensure site-based Advisory and culture building programs align with network-wide expectations, share best practices, and coordinate professional development
    • Designs, implements, and monitors professional development so that faculty and staff are adequately trained to implement school culture programs, policies, and practices.
    • Collaborates with the School Leadership team to ensure that all staff are held accountable to ensure school culture norms (e.g., student uniforms, on time to class, cell phone usage, and smooth transitions). Observes and provides regular feedback to teachers and School Leadership regarding school culture. Regularly conducts advisor observations to ensure alignment with objectives and feedback to advisors on implementation
    • Designs, implements, and monitors, and communicates effective student behavior interventions that are fully aligned with Carmen culture and discipline philosophy and guidelines. Ensures that faculty and staff are adequately trained to implement these practices and implements a regular coaching schedule to support positive classroom culture
    • Leads the implementation of a strong family engagement strategy including opportunities for regular parent engagement and events as well as the implementation of strong practices to ensure parents are provided regular communication on the progress of their student
    • Leads the organization of school celebrations and events including, but not limited to, student assemblies, student retreats, and student bridge programs
    • Oversees the Community Service program including creating partnership opportunities to support student service hours
    • Coordinates with the School Social Worker onsite and external behavioral health specialists and outside partners to offer programming for students (e.g., building safe relationships, drug awareness, etc.)
    • Supports the establishment of a strong extra-curricular program to serve all students and ensure strong connectivity amongst students
    • Supports a college readiness culture with use of the school’s mission and vision

  • Data Analysis
    • Drives school culture by maintaining an urgent focus on using data to improve attendance, arrival on time to school/class, discipline metrics, and classroom culture and to support timely follow ups and interventions in collaboration with the Principal and/or AP
    • Implements effective tools to track, analyze, and improve school culture
    • Analyzes school culture data to identify trends and create actions plans to best support students and teachers
    • Serves as a member of the Behavior Response to Intervention (RtI) Team and oversees recordkeeping and coordinates implementation of Tier 1, 2, and 3 interventions in collaboration with the School Social Worker

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The position will work predominantly Monday – Friday; however, this position will require work on evenings and weekends as necessary.
