POSITION SUMMARY

Carmen seeks a motivated, organized, and enthusiastic Career Readiness Coordinator—a mission critical role to our students’ success in graduating prepared for success in college and/or family sustaining careers. The Career Readiness Coordinator collaborates with College and Career team members, school leaders, and staff to plan and implement career exploration and readiness programs that help students discover, explore, and prepare for future careers. This includes working 1:1 with students to provide resources and guidance, collaborating with partner organizations to help students access external opportunities, facilitating career readiness and self-discovery lessons with activities, and helping coordinate and lead site visits with local businesses and professionals. In addition, the Career Readiness Coordinator is responsible for supporting students and partner organizations participating in our Student Internship Program, Certified Nursing Assistant Program, Career Site Visit Program, and other relevant career preparation programs offered directly through Carmen and partnership organizations.

Salary Range: $45,000 - $65,000

Start Date: August 14 or earlier

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
  • Bi-lingual fluency in Spanish and English required
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to:
    • Respond effectively to the needs of a diverse and demanding student and parent population
    • Work well in a team and communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, advisors, and staff
  • Sensitivity, openness, and approachability; ability to see and celebrate potential in every student
  • Exceptional organizational ability and confidence performing well under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and desire to take initiative in efforts to advocate for and provide students with unique learning experiences and opportunities
  • Desire to build community partnerships to provide opportunities for students to discover their passions, explore careers, and begin preparation for success after high school
  • Experience with charter or charter like schools and/or with underrepresented and/or low-income students, preferred
  • Belief and commitment to our mission, being a change agent, and a having a growth mindset
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Familiarity with career technical programs, preferred
  • Experienced in Google platforms, preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record to occasionally drive students in Carmen van(s) to/from Career exploration opportunities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a resource for students, parents, and staff regarding career readiness planning and programming
  • Assist with the application, selection, and enrollment process for the Student Internship Program, technical education coursework, certification and apprenticeships, and the Certified Nursing Assistant Program
  • Complete 1:1 Career Planning meetings with 10th graders
  • Plan and execute workshops and seminars for groups of students and/or parents
  • Help research, evaluate, and provide career related opportunities for students
  • Work with outside businesses and nonprofits to coordinate informational sessions to expose students to the numerous opportunities available in Milwaukee
  • Collaborate with the Chief College Officer, team members, school leadership, and relevant teachers to plan and execute mock interviews
  • Track and report qualitative and quantitative program data for student feedback, program analysis, reporting, and external development
  • Recruit and chaperone students to participate in career exploration opportunities (e.g., job shadowing and company tours)
  • Collaborate with College Team to support seniors pursuing careers in the trades or other non-college going post-secondary pathways
  • Other occasional duties as assigned by the Chief College Officer, Assistant Director of College Transition, and/or campus leadership to ensure school safety and function (e.g. arrival duty, chaperoning, etc.)
  • Occasional evening and weekend work is required (i.e. family nights, program orientations, etc.)
  • Occasional travel throughout Milwaukee County (different Carmen campuses and partnership organizations)

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The position will work predominantly Monday – Friday; however, this position will require work on evenings and weekends as necessary.
